CARLSBAD, CA., November 10, 2003 – The Callaway Golf Company Foundation, as part of its work to improve the communities in which Callaway Golf® Company (NYSE: ELY) operates, has presented the inaugural Award for Organizational Excellence to the Vista Community Clinic. The nonprofit organization serves residents of northern San Diego County who have financial, social or cultural barriers to medicine and health education.

The Callaway Golf Company Foundation Award for Organizational Excellence, established in May 2003, recognizes the organization that best distinguishes itself among all grantees during each of the Foundation's twice-yearly grant cycles. Criteria for the $5,000 cash award include making a pronounced difference in the lives of those in need while also excelling at managing programs, people and funding through innovation and teamwork. The award was presented November 3 during a ceremony in Vista.

“The Vista Community Clinic exemplifies the goals and ideals set forth by the Callaway Golf Company Foundation, and we are pleased to recognize it as the first recipient of the Award for Organizational Excellence,” said Paul Thompson, Executive Director of the Callaway Golf Foundation. “Each day, in ways large and small, Vista Community Clinic is effectively and efficiently making a difference in the lives of those who most need medical services and health education.”

The Callaway Golf Company Foundation Board unanimously agreed to nominate Vista Community Clinic. Since its founding in 1972, Vista Community Clinic has grown from its tiny Vista location – donated space in a local dog pound – to five state-of-the-art clinics in Vista and Oceanside. The clinics serve residents throughout the Vista, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Fallbrook and greater northern San Diego communities.

Last year, Vista Community Clinic helped more than 41,000 patients, more than half of them youths, through 152,686 medical visits. The Vista Community Clinic Health Promotion Center also assists more than 100,000 community members each year through 43 programs designed to reduce chronic disease and increase healthy lifestyle behavior. The clinic has earned local, statewide and national recognition for innovative programs that serve low-income and uninsured patients – one example includes an Interpreter Training Program that improves communication among health providers and patients with limited English skills. “We have been the recipient of Callaway Golf Company Foundation grants for many years now, and our patients in the northern San Diego County communities have benefited greatly from that generosity,” said Barbara Mannino, Executive Director of Vista Community Clinic. “We are very lucky to have the support of the Callaway Golf Company Foundation, and when we heard we were the very first recipient of the Award for Organizational Excellence we were thrilled. We have such respect for the work that the Foundation does, and to be chosen for this award is really an honor.”

The Callaway Golf Company Foundation is a private IRC 501(c)(3) charitable foundation that was founded in 1993. Since that time, the Foundation has approved more than $5 million in grants to nonprofit organizations helping people in need throughout San Diego County, with an emphasis on the areas of family, health and youth.
