CARLSBAD, CA., January 31, 2000 – The only thing hotter than the 110-degree temperatures at the Heineken Classic in Australia was Callaway Golf (NYSE:ELY) Staff Professional Michael Campbell's game. The 30-year-old New Zealander scorched the field in Perth, winning by six strokes for his second victory in two weeks. Campbell has now won three times in his last seven starts and is atop the Order of Merit on both the PGA European and PGA Australasian Tours.

At the Heineken Classic, Campbell shot 65-66 on the weekend to leap from a one-stroke deficit after two rounds to his final margin of victory. He birdied four of his final five holes to slam the door on the field.

“Under the gun, under the pressure of leading by one shot with five holes to play, I just found an extra gear,” said Campbell, who won the Johnnie Walker Classic last November. “That's the best two rounds I've ever put together. My whole career has turned around in the last three months. Now I think it's possible I can be one of the best players in the world.”

Campbell used 12 Callaway Golf clubs in his latest victory, including a Great Big Bertha Hawk Eye Titanium Driver, Big Bertha Steelhead 4-wood, Big Bertha X-12 Irons and an Odyssey Putter. Campbell leads the PGA European Tour in stroke average at 68.00, more than a stroke better than his nearest competitors, Ernie Els and Lee Westwood.

Callaway Golf was also well represented at the PGA Tour by Rocco Mediate, who finished one stroke shy of forcing a playoff in defense of his 1999 Phoenix Open title. Mediate used 11 Callaway Golf clubs, including the new Steelhead X-14 Irons, as well as the soon-to-be-released Callaway Golf ball.
