CARLSBAD, Calif., Feb 4, 2002 (BW SportsWire) -- Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) and its new CTU 30(TM) golf ball were victorious at yesterday's Royal Caribbean Classic. The champion used the CTU 30 Red model to finish at 11-under-par 133 at the rain-shortened, 36-hole event. Three of the top four finishers at the Royal Caribbean Classic, including Callaway Golf Staff Professional Bruce Fleisher, used the CTU 30 Red ball. The victory is the first for the CTU 30 ball on the Senior PGA Tour.

The CTU 30 Blue and Red balls are, along with the soon-to-be-released HX(TM) Blue and Red balls, the latest in Callaway Golf's three-piece, solid-core golf ball technology which has been used to win more than 75 times around the world over the last two years. The new CTU 30 models are named for their high-performance cast thermoset urethane covers, which are among the thinnest in golf at just 0.030 inch.

Callaway Golf was the No. 2 golf ball brand in play at the Royal Caribbean Classic. A total of 28 golfers in the 78-player field used balls made by Callaway Golf, including 14 of the new HX Blue and Red balls. The HX, which features the proprietary Tubular Lattice Network for outstanding aerodynamic performance, was used by Walter Hall to score a top-10 finish at the Royal Caribbean Classic.

The HX ball has also made a strong early impression on the PGA Tour, where Lee Janzen has used the HX Red to earn back-to-back top-5 finishes. Yesterday, Janzen finished tied for third at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Janzen led the elite field in greens hit in regulation at 77.8 percent, and he is now 36-under par over 12 rounds this year while using the HX Red ball. The HX Blue and Red balls are scheduled to ship to golf shops next month.

In addition to golf balls, Callaway Golf's new golf club models are also achieving early success on tour. Jesper Parnevik is using the new Big Bertha(R) Irons while Charles Howell III is using the new Odyssey(R) White Hot(R) "2-Ball" Putter. Both these Callaway Golf Staff Professionals were among the top-15 finishes at Pebble Beach. Meanwhile, Fleisher has used the new Big Bertha C4(TM) Driver to finish in the top five of both Senior PGA Tour events he has played this year.
