CARLSBAD, Calif., Apr 28, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) clubs and balls played a central role in another breakthrough tour victory yesterday. Callaway Golf Ball Staff Professional Kenneth Ferrie used the HX(R) Blue golf ball to win the Spanish Open and earn his first PGA European Tour victory. Ferrie won a three-man playoff with a tap-in birdie on the second playoff hole, giving Callaway Golf its eighth golf ball victory across the world's six major professional tours this season. Four of the top five finishers at the Spanish Open used Callaway Golf(R) balls -- Callaway Golf Ball Staff Professionals Peter Hedblom (HX Red) and Peter Lawrie (CTU 30(R) Red) joined Ferrie in the playoff and finished tied for second, while Callaway Golf Ball Staff Professional Brian Davis (HX Red) finished tied for fourth.

The Spanish Open champion also used the new Great Big Bertha(R) II Titanium Driver to average 291.5 yards in driving distance average, using his distance and accuracy off the tee to card five eagles at Golf Campo Adeje on the Canary Islands. The PGA European Tour's seventh first-time winner of the season also used a Great Big Bertha II Titanium 3-wood, a Big Bertha(R) 2-iron, the new Steelhead(TM) X-16(TM) Irons and an Odyssey(R) DFX(TM) 2-Ball Putter. Joining the winner in the playoff after shooting scores of 22-under-par 266 were two other players using Odyssey 2-Ball Putters. Exactly half of the 156 player field used Odyssey Putters at the Spanish Open, and Odyssey Putters were the No. 1 putter brand in play across the world's six major professional tours combined again last week.

The Odyssey 2-Ball family of putters also scored a victory on the other side of the Atlantic yesterday. The winner of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf used an Odyssey White Hot(R) 2-Ball Long Putter to claim his first Champions Tour victory of the season. The winner shot 10-under-par 206 and earned $350,000 -- the biggest paycheck of his professional career. Odyssey Putters have now been used to win five of the nine Champions Tour events played this year.

Callaway Golf's Great Big Bertha II Titanium Drivers continue to make a powerful impression on the world's professional tours. The Spanish Open marked the seventh tour victory for the new drivers this season, and the strong acceptance of the Great Big Bertha II Titanium Drivers spurred Callaway Golf to a pair of driver usage victories last week. Callaway Golf won the driver usage counts on the Nationwide and LPGA tours outright and tied for the lead in drivers on the Japan Golf Tour. More than 25 percent of the drivers in play across the world's six major professional tours last week were Great Big Bertha II Titanium Drivers.
