CARLSBAD, CA., May 8, 2000 – In a big weekend for Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) staff professionals around the world, Colin Montgomerie, Carlos Franco and Bruce Fleisher all recorded tournament victories. Each of the three champion golfers used Callaway Golf’s Hawk Eye® Titanium Drivers.
Montgomerie started the run of victories with his win at the French Open. His two-stroke victory, the 23rd European title of his career, was highlighted by a pair of tap-in eagles on the back nine, including a 6-iron shot to within two feet on the final hole. At the English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans, Franco successfully defended his title at the Compaq Classic. On the second hole of a sudden-death playoff, Franco blasted a 326-yard drive to set up his winning par. Franco, who led the field with 25 birdies over four rounds, had 12 Callaway Golf Clubs in his bag, including his Hawk Eye Titanium Driver, Steelhead Plus 3-wood, Big Bertha X-12® Irons and an Odyssey White Hot 2 Putter.
Finally, Fleisher capped Callaway Golf’s winning weekend by defending his title at the Home Depot Invitational. Fleisher’s final-round 68 forced a playoff, which he then won on the third extra hole with a birdie. The victory was Fleisher’s third of the season and the 10th of his 44-event Senior PGA Tour career. He is the only senior to win more than one event on tour this year.
