Sorenstam Victory Gives Odyssey White Hot 10 Worldwide Wins Since Introduction
CARLSBAD, CA., July 10, 2000 – Annika Sorenstam used her Odyssey® White Hot™ 2 Putter to hole an 11-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a playoff to win the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic yesterday. The victory was Sorenstam's fourth of the year using a White Hot Putter made by Odyssey Golf, a division of Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY). Odyssey White Hot Putters have now recorded 10 wins on the world's five major tours combined since their introduction in January.
The playoff was an all-Odyssey affair. Rachel Hetherington, using an Odyssey TriForce™ 2 Putter, birdied the last two holes of regulation to force the playoff with Sorenstam. Each player parred the first playoff hole before Sorenstam's winning birdie on the second.
“I was thrilled to make that putt,” said Sorenstam, who has earned three of her four victories this season in playoffs. “I have high expectations, and this year I'm meeting them.”
Sorenstam's hot putter helped propel her toward victory. She made a tricky nine-foot putt to save par on the fourth hole, then birdied three of the next four holes with putts of seven, 22 and 14 feet.
Through July 9, Odyssey Putters are the most-played putters on the world's five major professional tours combined in 2000. According to the Darrell Survey Company and Sports Marketing Surveys, Ltd., 31.4 percent of all putters used on the PGA, Senior PGA, LPGA, BUY.COM and PGA European tours combined this year have been Odyssey Putters, compared with 22.6 percent for the nearest competitor.
