CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2004--Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) Staff Professional Jim Thorpe rode eight final-round birdies to a sparkling 66 Sunday that vaulted him from a three-stroke deficit to a one-stroke victory at the Farmers Charity Classic at Egypt Valley Country Club in Grand Rapids, MI. His 54-hole total of 203, 13 under par, earned him his eighth Champions Tour career victory. Thorpe now has at least one victory in each of his five years on the Champions Tour -- all of them with Callaway Golf(R) equipment in his bag.

Thorpe used a full complement of Callaway Golf equipment in his latest triumph, including the powerful combination of the ERC(R) Fusion(R) Driver and HX(R) Tour Golf Ball -- a combination that produced 12 worldwide professional wins since those products were introduced. Thorpe also used the Steelhead(R) III Strong 4-wood, Big Bertha(R) Strong 5-wood, Hawk Eye(R) VFT(R) Irons and Odyssey(R) White Hot(R) 2-Ball Blade Putter.

Thorpe, 55, began the day tied for third, but he moved into contention with birdies at the first, third, fifth, and eighth holes and tied the leader with another birdie at No. 10. Back-to-back birdies at 13 and 14 put him in front for good. The win ended Thorpe's run of close calls at Egypt Valley, where he had finished second, third and fourth in his last three appearances.

Thorpe's iron and wedge play was spectacular on Sunday. He hit 81 percent of the greens in regulation, third in the field, and also finished in the top 10 in both Driving Distance (298 yards, 4th) and Putts (1.6 per green in regulation, 9th).

"It all starts with the driver and I love my ERC Fusion," Thorpe said. "I have been driving the ball just super with the combination of the ERC Fusion and HX Tour golf ball. You never know when everything is going to come together for you, and this week I really started hitting my irons good and holing some putts."

Elsewhere on the world's professional golf tours, the Callaway Golf family of brands continued to dominate on the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO), finishing first in drivers, woods, irons and putters for the ninth time in nine JGTO events this year. Callaway Golf Fairway Woods and Odyssey putters were the number one choice on the European PGA Tour and on the LPGA Tour, Callaway Golf led the equipment count on woods, irons and putters.
